A seminar on the Interface of Plant Disease Epidemics, Food Safety and Food Security: Implications for One Health

A three-day seminar entitled ‘Interface of Plant Disease Epidemics, Food Safety and Food Security: Implications for One Health’ was held in Coimbatore in the state of Tamil Nadu, in southern India from 12 to 14 November 2025 with the support of the Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research (IFCPAR). Jean-Noël Aubertot from INRAE’s AGroecology, Innovations and teRritories research unit (AGIR) represented the institute’s AgroEcoSystem research division.

The seminar was jointly organised by the Plant Pathology Department of the Centre for Plant Protection Studies of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) and l’Institut Agro Rennes-Angers.

The seminar set out to:

  • improve mutual understanding of the research conducted in India and France in the field of in plant protection for food security and the concept of One Health   
  • promote collaborative research involving l’Institut Agro Rennes-Angers, INRAE, CIRAD and IRD and different Indian teams from 18 research structures.

The Indo-French seminar marked an important step forward in strengthening collaboration between India and France in research on crop protection for global food and health security.

MACS-G20 in India: INRAE renews partnerships for the environment and food security

Philippe Mauguin, Chair and CEO of INRAE, was in India from 17 to 21 April 2023 to represent France as its Chief Scientific Officer at the G20 Meeting of Agricultural Chief Scientists (MACS). The trip was also an opportunity for INRAE to reiterate the importance of cooperation with its Indian partners. These long-standing partnerships on livestock farming and watershed management in India have led to structuring several innovative international research partnership schemes, including partners from the regional higher education and research ecosystem in France.

The first International Forum on Agroecosystem Living Labs, organised by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) and INRAE, will be held in Montreal from 2 to 6 October 2023.
