Occitanie-Toulouse

With nearly 1,200 INRAE ​​researchers, engineers and technicians, the Occitanie-Toulouse centre represents more than 11% of the Institute's scientific publications.  Open to innovation with local players, the centre conducts research in biology, biotechnology and agronomy, in plant and animal sciences and health management, and in economic, social and information sciences.

Agriculture and agrifood represent the first economic sector of the Occitania / Pyrenees-Mediterranean region.

The teams of the INRAE Occitanie-Toulouse centre conduct their research and innovation activities in response to three major challenges:

  • more sustainable agricultural and forestry systems adapted to climate change
  • integrated management of health (animal and human), for healthy food and respect for the environment
  • new agro-resource processing chains for the emergence of a regional bio-economy.

Our targeted research is conducted in more than a dozen joint research units, supported by a broad base of technological platforms and experimental units (field crops, small ruminants). Our teams are involved in three laboratories of excellence, a university research school and a convergence institute that favour interdisciplinary approaches, notably combining biology and ecology, human and social sciences, agronomy and digital sciences.

INRAE, the second largest public scientific and technological establishment (EPST) in France, has established a partnership with seven higher education establishments and four research organisations in the Toulouse area.
