Scientific seminar organised as part of the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists
24-26 March 2026
Institut Agro Montpellier, 2 place Pierre Viala, Montpellier

As part of the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists declared by the United Nations, the Pasto joint technological unit (INRAE - IDELE - Institut Agro Montpellier) and the Entente Interdépartementale des Causses et Cévennes are organising an interdisciplinary international seminar with the aim of identifying the levers that will ensure the sustainability or redeployment of pastoral practices that respond to current societal, ecological and socio-economic challenges.
Sharing experience from stakeholders and research findings from a a variety of disciplines will enable us to analyse and discuss ways and means of preserving this heritage for the future, both in mountainous and lowland areas.

It is aimed at all those involved in pastoralism, whether scientists or technicians, who are working to ensure that this heritage is preserved for the future, both in mountainous and lowland areas.

With the participation of INRAE:

  • Flavia GUERRIERI, Territories joint research unit: Taking into account rangelands and pastoralists in public policy and land use planning
  • Anne-Lyse MURRO, Mountain Ecosystems and Societies Laboratory (LESSEM): Herd management and pastoral systems in relation to mobility and supply chains
