World Congress on Animal Production “Climate change, biodiversity and global sustainability of animal production”

INRAE and partners are co-organizing the Joint International Congress on Animal Science around global challenges, in Lyon from August 26th to September 1st. The 74th annual meeting of the EAAP, organised by INRAE and chaired by Jean-François Hocquette, will exceptionally take place at the same time as the WAAP which is held every 5 years. On this occasion, different sessions will take place to cover various areas of knowledge related to animal science, such as genetics, nutrition, physiology, animal health and welfare. Additionally, INRAE, CSIRO and AFZ will hold a workshop "Food and Feed for the Future" at ISARA, Lyon (France) on September 1st 2023, sponsored by the OECD Co-operative Research Programme: Sustainable Agricultural and Food Systems.

The Joint International Congress on Animal Science “Climate change, biodiversity and global sustainability of animal production” wil be held in Lyon, France, from August 26th to September 1st, 2023.

The event is co-organised by INRAE and the French Association for Animal Production (AFZ), on behalf of the European Federation of Animal Science (EAAP), the World Association for Animal Production (WAAP) and by “France Génétique Elevage” on behalf of Interbull.

Different sessions will take place to cover various areas of knowledge related to animal science, such as genetics, nutrition, physiology, animal health and welfare. The event has already attracted an incredibly high number of abstract submissions: 1200 for theater presentations within 99 sessions and 700 as posters. More than 2000 delegates are expected on site and many others will attend online.

Food and Feed for the Future

INRAE, CSIRO and AFZ will hold a workshop at ISARA, Lyon, on September 1st 2023, sponsored by the OECD Co-operative Research Programme: Sustainable Agricultural and Food Systems.

For Agri-food systems to evolve towards a pattern of sustainability and resilience to ensure food security and nutrition for all, major transformations in agricultural systems and natural resource management are necessary. They must ensure a safe and healthy future for all people and the entire planet. The growing protein demand of the growing global population can only be sustainably addressed by diversifying the protein offering. The workshop will present and discuss challenges and opportunities for protein production from animals, plant-based sources, and novel protein sources (insects, yeast, and microalgae) and how they contribute to sustainable food systems. Different options will be discussed to address this problem: new technologies such as microbial production to produce more food or to consider more sustainable land-based food systems.
