Happy New Year from INRAE!

2025 marks INRAE's fifth anniversary. Ever since INRA and IRSTEA joined forces, we have shown that we are stronger together as we confront multiple global crises, including climate change, which is affecting human populations as well as agricultural, forestry, and ecological systems.

Given these urgent issues, we know that the general public and a wide range of stakeholders expect research-based solutions. The research we are carrying out in our laboratories and experimental units is paving the way for tomorrow's solutions, whether we are developing pesticide alternatives, sustainable livestock systems, adaptations to climate change, strategies for restoring biodiversity, or approaches for fostering food sovereignty. These solutions are collaboratively designed with our academic and socioeconomic partners, which include technical institutes and chambers of agriculture. They are being deployed by a network of stakeholders who share our commitment to innovation and sustainable development.

Because of these expectations and the budgetary constraints faced by the entire public sector, we will be taking steps to adapt and fortify our activities. Notably, we will be updating our institutional roadmap: INRAE 2030. Our targeted changes will help us explore new research frontiers, look into the benefits of artificial intelligence, augment our support for public policies, and deliver more solutions to farmers and stakeholders.

Our institute is strong. Its strength arises from the dedication of our community, the relevance of our research, and the quality of our many partnerships. Working from this foundation, we must maintain our momentum and remain steadfast in tackling the challenges ahead. Together, let us continue to ensure the essential role played by INRAE in navigating the transitions of agricultural and food production systems and in developing adaptations to climate change.
