CIRAD and INRAE: renewed international mutualisation

The unit was set up in 2015 so that through their international research and innovation partnerships the two institutes could best respond to the challenges posed by climate change, food and nutritional insecurity, the evolution of food systems and the multiplicity of demands placed on agriculture. The renewal therefore acknowledges its achievements during the past five years. Now, more than ever, research needs to contribute to informing decision-making and supporting changes at both the local and global levels.

UMA-RI is being entrusted with pursuing the mutualisation of certain functions, such as support for official visits to other countries by members of the French government (President or Ministers), the hosting of foreign delegations, a combined representation at workshops and the development of tripartite agreements such as that co-signed with the FAO in 2018.

This agreement also means that the two institutes will continue to benefit from international representations that cover all parts of the world.  

Where relevant, the Presidents also agreed to reinforce their joint participation in international structural instruments such as international associated laboratories (LIA), international research networks, partnership arrangements and priority programmes of international scope.

They also decided to set up an ad hoc INRAE-CIRAD working group, with support from UMA-RI, to reflect together on new partnership initiatives in Africa that could be proposed to their supervisory authorities.
