PRESENTATION

INRAE's Research Division for Mathematics and Digital Technologies (MathNum) develops research in applied mathematics, statistics, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence and information technology. Its teams conduct theoretical, methodological and applied research. They are deeply involved in interdisciplinary collaborations with teams from other INRAE divisions and from outside INRAE, thus dealing with a large diversity of data and modelling issues arising from microbiology, systems biology, genetics, population dynamics, and more generally with food, agriculture and environment sciences.

Based on its 11 research units (in Paris-Saclay, Jouy-en-Josas, Evry, Rennes, Clermont-Ferrand, Toulouse, Montpellier and Avignon), the MathNum community comprises more than 350 people, including permanent staff (researchers, lecturer-researchers, engineers and technicians) and more than 160 PhD students, post-docs and other fixed-term-contract staff members. Its collaborations and partnership encompass many institutes (Cirad, CNRS, Inria, Inserm, IRD, ...)  and universities (Avignon, Clermont-Auvergne, Marseille, Montpellier, Rennes, Saclay, Toulouse ...) in France as well as in Europe and in the world.

The priorities of MathNum in the coming years will deal with:

  • the integration of heterogeneous, multi-source and multi-scale data
  • modelling and simulating complex dynamic systems
  • decision support and action based on real and simulated data.
