Nature-based Solutions International Congress 2026: advancing research on Nature-based Solutions
From 3 to 6 November 2026, the Scientific Conference of the Nature-based Solutions International Congress will bring together the international research community at Sorbonne University in Paris. Organised by the French National Research Program on Nature-based Solutions (Solu-Biod), Sorbonne University and Biodiversa+, the conference will provide a forum for sharing and discussing research on the design, implementation and evaluation of Nature-based Solutions (NbS).
Climate change and biodiversity loss are closely interconnected challenges, with major consequences for ecosystems and societies. Nature-based Solutions seek to address societal challenges through actions that protect, sustainably manage or restore ecosystems, while providing benefits for biodiversity and human well-being.
Against this backdrop, the Scientific Conference of the Nature-based Solutions International Congress will bring together research from the natural, human and social sciences. From fundamental research to participatory and action-oriented approaches, the conference aims to foster dialogue across disciplines and sectors and advance knowledge on the conditions under which Nature-based Solutions can be designed, implemented and evaluated.
Its scientific programme comprises 33 thematic sessions, covering a wide range of ecosystems, geographical contexts and research questions. The programme was developed following an international call for sessions that received more than 110 proposals, followed by more than 500 submissions to the call for abstracts and posters.
The Scientific Conference forms part of the broader Nature-based Solutions International Congress, organised in Paris from 2 to 6 November by SOLU-BIOD and NetworkNature, in collaboration with UNP+, Biodiversa+, Sorbonne University and the City of Paris. Alongside the Scientific Conference, the Congress includes NetworkNature Week, dedicated to exchanges between research, policy and practice.
SOLU-BIOD at the Scientific Conference
The Solu-Biod French National Research Program, co-led by INRAE and CNRS, supports scientific research on the design, implementation and evaluation of Nature-based Solutions.
Researchers involved in SOLU-BIOD will contribute to several sessions throughout the conference, addressing a broad range of issues related to Nature-based Solutions: scaling and socio-ecological justice, multifunctional landscapes, agricultural and forest ecosystems, coastal resilience, urban governance, Living Labs and the long-term management of NbS.
Among these contributions, INRAE scientists Joana Guerrin, Zoé Pujol and Frank Taillandier will present work addressing several dimensions of Nature-based Solutions, including socio-ecological justice and governance, their evaluation at watershed scale, Living Lab approaches and their long-term management.
