An observatory to measure the impact of grasslands and field crops on the environment

Biogeochemical cycles and biodiversity on grasslands and field crops: rediscover the research observatory ACBB thanks to a video proposed as part of the Fascination Plant of Day 2021 and the AnaEE scientific project supported by the French National Research Agency.

INRAE has set up observatories to evaluate the effect of agricultural practices on the environment. Spread over four INRAE experimental sites, the SOERE ACBB observatory collects environmental data from three agro-ecosystems:

- temporary grasslands alternating with crops (in Lusignan in Nouvelle-Aquitaine)

- permanent grasslands (in Theix and Laqueuille in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes)

- field crops (in Estrées-Mons in Hauts-de-France).

This video presents this long-term observation and experimentation system for environmental research (SOERE) on agro-ecosystems, biogeochemical cycles and biodiversity (ACBB), created by INRAE and the CNRS (INSU). This video was produced within the framework of the AnaEE research project supported by the French National Research Agency (ANR).

The four observatory sites presented in this video are located in the three INRAE centers of Nouvelle-Aquitaine-Poitiers, Clermont-Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Hauts-de-France.

Biofuels and biomaterials: a new enzyme could be a game-changer

A novel enzyme that can degrade the xylan which coats the fibres of wood cellulose offers new prospects of significantly optimising the breakdown of lignocellulosic biomass and the processing of cellulose. Three patents have been filed by INRA relative to the production of fermentescible sugars and the defibrillation of cellulose substrates.
