International collaboration: University of California, Davis and INRAE have signed a framework agreement on scientific cooperation and an initial project on vine health

PRESS RELEASE - For the first time, a framework agreement on scientific cooperation has been signed between University of California, Davis and INRAE, following a meeting between the Chancellor of University of California, Davis, Gary May, and the Chair & CEO of INRAE, Philippe Mauguin, in Paris in May 2019. This agreement aims to promote research partnerships and reinforce cooperation between the two institutions in jointly agreed strategic scientific fields, based on top level collaborations and joint publications.

A first and specific agreement has just been signed in the context of this framework. It initiates a new, two-year project on vine health and wood diseases. Indeed, this theme is a priority of common interest insofar as the USA and France are two major wine producers and consumers, ranking 6th and 3rd respectively at a global level in terms of the surface areas of their vineyards. A second project on the composition of cow’s milk and health is currently in preparation and will aim to explore jointly the potential health benefits of non-nutritional components present at very low levels in milk.

Both projects will enable collaborations and exchanges, notably among young scientists with high potential in these promising areas. They have been jointly selected and supported by University of California, Davis and INRAE, based on the excellence of the research envisaged and the quality of the teams involved. Although the visits initially scheduled have been postponed because of the pandemic, online and remote discussions on the development of these scientific collaborations are already under way.

Two publications present the results of FACCE-JPI

The Joint Programming Initiative on Agriculture, Food Security and Climate Change (FACCE-JPI) has published its new brochure and a flyer on soil management in the context of climate change mitigation. The brochure presents the achievements and future actions of FACCE-JPI and includes several key interviews. The flyer highlights some of the research projects that are part of the 'FACCE-JPI Multi-Partner Call on Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Research'. Both documents were presented at the International Conference on Agricultural GHG Emissions and Food Security organised by GRA and FACCE-JPI in Berlin (10-13 September 2018).
